Lip Enhancement

Lip enhancement return our lips to the kissable condition they were when we were younger. We have various methods for this including using fillers, fat transfer and cosmetic tattooing.

Sadly as we age, our gums recede causing our top lips to drop, turn inward and look thinner. Our natural, beautiful definition is also spoiled by sun damage, freckles and cold sores and our lips look less… well, less kissable! So how do we restore that youthful look? Well, the best effect by far is to restore both colour and volume.

The colour part is easy – Semi-Permanent Make-Up (also known as Cosmetic Tattoos) It’s a fast and long lasting way to restore colour and unlike lipstick, it won’t wash off! A full lip takes about 2 hours and the whole lip is “coloured in” with pigment. The result is long lasting (typically 3-5 years although it could be as long as 7). Beware of technicians that will only tattoo the outline as this can look like lip liner after the lipstick has gone – at Australian Skin Clinics we believe that a whole lip tattoo is always the best result. There are literally hundreds of pigment colours available – a good technician will guide you in your choice

Lip Enhancement:

We recommend that you avoid bright unnatural and harsh colours, as these will not compliment your whole wardrobe. Instead chose a colour that flatters your complexion and looks natural – that way your lips will look superb whatever you are wearing and for special occasions you can also add lipstick over the top. I had my lips tattooed 18 months ago and in all that time I have only worn lipstick once (dark plum to go to a ball) – the rest of the time a quick dash of gloss and I’m ready to go!

Adding volume to lips makes them instantly more kissable. There is a debate about how “natural” the full lips of stars like Angelina Jolie and Courtney Love really are. Courtney has been seen out with very swollen lips leading us to believe that she has had injectable fillers. While there is no doubt that Angelina Jolie had beautiful lips all her life, (and apparently her brother has too) I believe that given her age, she will most probably have a little help to maintain her pout.

Over the years men and women have used all kinds of injectables, massages, devices and plumping products to achieve lip volume. There are ways of permanently increasing the size of your lips, but we believe that temporary fillers are a better option – after all, permanently plump lips could look strange 10 years later when the dynamics of your face has changed again through natural ageing. One of our most popular treatments for lips is injectable fillers (also known as dermal Fillers).

Dermal fillers before 3aDermal fillers after 3b

These lip enhancements can be applied after a cosmetic tattoo (about 4-6 weeks later) to provide a combination treatment of increased colour and volume. Dermal fillers for lips usually last from four to eight months – sometimes longer. The procedure itself takes about 30 minutes and can be carried out with dental blocks to reduce pain.

Immediately after treatment, there may be bruising, redness, tenderness, swelling and itching. All of these are normal effects from the injection and are temporary, lasting up to 72 hours. Initial swelling of the lips may last longer. Some patients experience swelling for up to 10 days, during which time, the lips may look uneven or lumpy but they will then settle down Dermal fillers gradually dissolve over a period of time. The rate of dissolution varies from individual to individual. No guarantees can be given as to the length of time the treatment lasts or the final outcome. Smoking, use of sun beds and unprotected sun exposure will seriously compromise the effectiveness of the treatment. As a naturally thin lipped woman, I speak from experience when I say its worth all the effort!
