Liposuction
Liposuction is a surgical procedure to remove fat from selected areas of the body, typically the abdomen (tummy), thighs, buttocks and arms.
At Australian Skin Clinics we offer both ultrasonic liposuction and traditional tumescent liposuction depending on the needs of the individual.
Ultrasonic Liposuction
Where possible, we use mostly an ultrasonic form of liposuction (IUAL) developed in 1989 to both reduce trauma and the formation of wavy areas of fat tissue. This can reduce post operative pain and gives a much more natural, toned result. The ultrasonic helps by targeting fat cells and causing them to implode and liquify. This is a far gentler process than the manual breakup of fat required by traditional liposuction, which can lead to considerable trauma and bruising. Ultrasonic liposuction has now been used on thousands of patients worldwide and is a well trusted technique.
As ultrasound is so precise, a smooth result is achievable with far more even contouring than traditional liposuction. It also minimises damage to surrounding tissues, so there is less bruising and skin contraction is improved. Larger amounts of fat tissue can also be removed due to decreased blood loss, and it can also reduce the risk of secondary surgery associated with the removal of excess skin.
After an operation it has also been found that compared with traditional liposuction, ultrasonic liposuction patients report less postoperative pain and see better skin retraction and cellulite improvement.
At Australian Skin Clinics, we use the most advanced system available – the Contour Genesis system. Dr Simon Rosenbaum, our general practitioner for cosmetic surgery, trained specifically on this machine in Los Angeles with Dr Grant Stevens. Dr Stevens is one of the most experienced doctors in the world with this equipment and was one of ten plastic surgeons to be part of the original clinical trials leading to US Food and Drug Administration approval.
