Broken capillaries are commonly found on the cheeks or nose area these appear as small red or pink threads under the surface of the skin. Broken capillaries occur when the capillary walls expand and contract too quickly causing the capillary walls to tear, allowing blood to seep out.
Thin, dehydrated, dry and sensitive skins provide less protection and are the most commonly effected. Broken capilliaries also show up more on pale Celtic and Northern European skins.
Common causes of broken capillaries are:
1. Hot conditions
2. Wind or air-conditioning blowing on the face
3. Sunburn
4. Extreme temperature changes
5. Pressure i.e. squeezing spots or glasses pressing on the face.
Treatments once formed include a specialist form of electrolysis. There are also specialist creams on the market that aim to strengthen the capillary walls thus reducing the redness. Treatments include IPL, Laser treatments (laser Genesis and NdYag)
