Wrinkles & Lines - There are two basic types of wrinkles or lines - static and dynamic. Dynamic lines are caused by movement of the facial muscles whilst static lines are caused by a combination of aging and sun damage.

Common Dynamic Lines

Common dynamic lines would be the worry lines on the forehead and between the eyebrows, the smile lines or Crow's feet at the side of the eyes or the naso-labial lines that form at the sides of the upper lip where the lip joins the cheek.

Unique Muscle Relaxant

There are several ways these lines can be treated. Based on prevention being better than cure, there is a unique muscle relaxant, which can be injected into a facial muscle so that it relaxes the muscle and stops the movement. It can only be used around the eyes and on the forehead. It is simple and easy to inject, takes up to a week to take full effect and lasts for three to six months. If it is used repetitively before the effect wears off then more permanent relaxation can be achieved. With the muscle r elaxed the skin can often dramatically repair the wrinkle. Injectable fillers can be used to instantly soften and correct abnormal lines anywhere on the face. The effect of fillers is also temporary but like muscle relaxant, with repeated use, the effect becomes more long lasting.

Advantage of Fillers

The great advantage of fillers is that the effect is immediate and can be done at any time without loss of work time. After several treatments, the effects can be very long lasting. Laser Resurfacing is the most technologically advanced way to treat wrinkles and lines. It has the most effect on static lines such as fine lines under the eyes and vertical lines around the mouth. The added benefit of Laser is the correction of skin texture problems such as sun damage and abnormal pigment. The result is a healthier, more youthful looking skin. The effect of Laser therapy will last for ten years or longer with appropriate long-term skin care. Australian Skin Clinics uses both Carbon Dioxide and Erbium Lasers for resurfacing.

The Latest Technology (IPL)

The very latest technology to treat some aspects of sun damaged skin is Photofacial Rejuvenation . Using the concept of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to do a series of treatments to sun damaged skin, this technique can improve the appearance of brown spots, blood vessels, open pores and fine lines. The big advantage is that there is usually no down time with this type of treatment making it an excellent choice for busy people who cannot afford down time.
